For many years the owners have been refining and renovating this spacious rental into its present state: a classic Tuscan countryside residence. It has fabulous views looking west from Lucca looking on toward the mountains that separate Lucca from Puccini's Lake (Lago Massaciuccoli).
On a good day you can enjoy a lovely view of the sea and the small islands that rest off shore. A marvellous wisteria covered pergola is a perfect corner for reading, dining by a gently breeze coming from the sea.

Nestling in lovely countryside, Il Basso was the country residence of a charming local family.
With their children now grown up, they now live in the centre of Lucca and their country house is now a comfortable holiday home.
Il Basso is furnished in a traditional, elegant Italian style with country and antique pieces.
Most rooms have colour washed walls in warm shades of primrose yellow adorned with the family's collection of prints and paintings.
The large collection of books and magazines betray the owners' interests. The large country kitchen has a traditional Tuscan fireplace (perfect for grilling meats!) as well as a large fridge, microwave and large marble topped kitchen table for breakfast.
All ground floor rooms open out onto the lovely terrace and gardens.
The comfortable bedrooms, all on the first floor with mosquito nets are furnished in the same warm traditional style. With table and chairs, the terrace covered in a beautiful old wisteria, is a perfect spot for shady lunches and candle lit dinners.
From the terrace and the gardens with fragrant rosemary, lavender and other shrubs, there are sweeping panoramic views of the hills and mountains.
On a clear day, guests have written that they can see the sea and the Tuscan islands in the distance! The peaceful, rural setting makes this a wonderful retreat for long walks, picnics in the olive groves and just relaxing by the pool under the Tuscan sun.
Milvia, the maid, can also prepare delicious suppers and guests have written enthusiastically of her delicious local cooking. Two of the owners dogs live at Il Basso - looked after by Antonio who discreetly tends the garden, olive groves and the pool.
Within easy reach, there are country trattorie and restaurants.
Apart from churches and museums, walled Lucca is home to chic boutiques, and restaurants catering for every taste and pocket - ideal for window-shopping after dinner! Florence is accessible by train or bus in approximately 1 hour. Siena and
San Gimignano are within driving distance.
Sandy beaches are approximately 30 mins drive away at Viareggio or Pietrasanta. Apart from swimming, pedalos and other activities there are bustling cafes and restaurants from which to admire the lively passeggiata.
There are music, cinema and dance festivals at Lucca and at the seaside resorts, and smaller festivals celebrating saints days with impromptu suppers and dancing under the stars in the local villages.
At Torre del Lago, just south of Viareggio, there is the summer Puccini opera Festival.
